The plan to develop the Counter Magnet Area has been conceived to reduce the congestion of the National Capital Region.
The project management and consultancy arm of the South based Mir Group, has been awarded the consultancy for the master plan preparation and development of Gwalior Counter Magnet Area, through a global bid. Addressing a press conference in Kochi, Mr. Arun Kumar, Managing Director, Mir Group, said it was a hotly contested bid with 18 participants, most of them being Europe-based. The consultancy has been awarded to the company by the Special Area Development Authority (SADA) constituted by the Madhya Pradesh Government for the holistic development of Gwalior.
The plan to develop the Counter Magnet Area has been conceived to reduce the congestion of the National Capital Region which has been witnessing huge influx of migrant population, taxing, thereby, its drinking water, electricity, transport and other basic infrastructural facilities. The development plan for Gwalior Counter Magnet area would be finalized during the early part of next year. Mir Projects will be developing the master plan in association with Prointec, its international partner based out of Spain.
Prointec is a leader in urban development and has played a pivotal role in the regional planning of Almeria Metropolitan Area and Bilbao Metropolitan Area in Spain.
While this will be Mir Group's first foray into urban planning consultancy, it has wide experience in providing consultancy for development of ports and railways. With almost all cities in India facing acute drinking water, electricity and transport problems, the potential for consultancy in urban planning is huge, Mr. Arun said.
MODEL CITY
Once developed, Gwalior is expected to emerge as a model city that offers an ecofriendly environment, high quality of life, excellent economic opportunities, good housing facilities and modern infrastructure. The new urban conglomerate would also have world class amenities, sewerage, waste management and water treatment facilities, solar power management systems and direct road linkages.

Mir group bags freight corridor consultancy project
Project to be undertaken with Germany's Uniconsult
Beating 15 contenders, the Kerala-based Mir group has won the consultancy project for the Dedicated Freight Corridor rail project to link the Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai to Tughlakabad and Dadri near Delhi. The Rs 30,000-crore, 1,483-km project will link the existing and emerging ports in Maharashtra and Gujarat with the northern hinterland of the country. Mir Projects and Consultants was chosen from among 13 international and 2 Indian bidders. The consultancy project is to be undertaken in association with Uniconsult of Germany.The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) is a special purpose vehicle set up under the administrative control of the Ministry of Railways to undertake planning and development, mobilization of financial resources and construction, maintenance and operation of the rail corridor and mega multimodal parks that are planned under the PPP model.

The project is expected to commence in early August.
Once completed, the dedicated freight corridor will enable the Indian Railways to improve its customer orientation and meet the market needs more effectively. Addressing a press meet, Mr. Arun Kumar, Managing Director of Mir Group, said: "It is a matter of pride for the corporate world in Kerala that companies within the State are becoming strong enough to compete with international consulting firms and bag consultancy assignment for the nation's mega infrastructure projects. A few years ago, large-scale consultancy projects in India were dominated by international players.

Mir Group bags consultancy to develop Vasco Bay

The Kochi-based Mir Projects and Consultants, the consultancy and project management wing of the diversified Mir Group, has bagged the consultancy for developing Vasco Bay at the Mormugao port Goa, in consortium with the Group's US partner, TranSystems, Virginia. This is the second consultancy work from the Mormugao port that has been awarded to Mir Projects and Consultants within one year.
FEASIBILITY STUDY
The feasibility study of this Rs 721-crore project has been completed and the final report submitted to the port authorities a month ago. The Mormugao port has now floated a global tender to invite suitable developers for implementing this approved project on DBFOT basis. The scope of consultancy for the development of Vasco Bay includes preparation of a business model for port-related activities which may include ship building and repair activities.
Mr. Jay S. Damodaran, Director Mir Projects and Consultants, said the feasibility study for technical and commercial development of Vas- co Bay is expected to be completed and the final re port will be submitted by the middle of 2010.

Mir group bags consultancy for Tadri port in Karnataka
C.J. Punnathara Kochi Sept. 28 Mir Projects and Consultants, the consultancy and project management division of the Mir Group, has bagged the consultancy for developing the Tadri port for the Government of Karnataka.The project will be implemented through Karnataka State Industrial Investment and development Corporation Ltd. The eventual value of the investment in the Greenfield port is expected to be around Rs 3,000-crore. The Tadri port is situated near Honnavar in North Kanara district and the scope of the consultancy work is to prepare the feasibility report and the plans to develop the Greenfield port with allied facilities on 2,000 acres situated in the estuary of the Aghanashini River.
ASSESSMENT STUDY
The study involves traffic evaluation, geotechnical and bathymetric studies, social impact assessment and concept designing of the eventual port development. The final output will be a master plan for the Greenfield port. Mir Projects and Consultants have bagged the consultancy project in association with its Spanish technical partner, Prointec, through a global bid, Mr. Arun Kumar, Managing Director of the Mir Group said. He said the development of the new port would enable rapid development for the North Kanara district.
ORE MOVEMENT
The proposed port is expected to accelerate the development and transport of iron ore from some of the country's richest iron ore mines in the country which are in close proximity. It would also facilitate coal linkages to the ultra mega power project coming up in Bijapur, Mr. Arun Ku- mar added. Additionally, the port is also expected to facilitate the development of sea- food processing and export industries as well as cashew processing and its allied ex- port industries. Recently the company also bagged the consultancy for developing the Western Dedicated Rail Freight Corridor for the Indi- an Railways.

Mir Group to develop traffic master plan for Andaman and Nicobar islands
Mir Projects and Consultants, the project management and consultancy arm of the diversified Mir Group, has been given the task of developing a Master Plan for traffic management at Andaman and Nicobar islands. The prestigious consultancy was awarded to the company through a global bid issued by the Government of India in Andaman and Nicobar islands, which had numerous participants, said Mr. Pradip Unni, GM- Marketing and Business Development, Mir Projects and Consultants. The Master Plan is meant to provide long lasting solutions to intra-island, inter- island and island-to-mainland transport requirements by providing better transport linkages. The highlight of the project lies in providing multi-mode transport facilities while at the same time ensuring that the pristine ecology and environment of the islands are least impacted, Mr. Unni pointed out. The Traffic Master Plan will set the course for tomorrow's traffic/ transport Requirements across the islands. Growth in population, changes in economic activity, lifestyle and other demographic and social developments have already resulted in a surge in the number of vehicles and the frequency of their trips. In a forecast, the Ministry of Tourism has stated that tourist arrivals to the islands is poised to grow by more than 100 per cent in the next 20 years.
TRANSHIPMENT PORT
The need for foresight and planning also stems from the Ministry of Shipping's plans to construct a major transhipment port at the southern most island of the Great Nicobar, to take advantage of the islands strategic location on the major East-West shipping corridor. Hence, the need of the hour is to develop transport facilities and reduce traffic congestion in a sustainable manner without disturbing the island's unique ecological footprint and carrying capacity, the group said.The consultancy project is proposed to be completed within 10 months. It calls for a master plan that will define the air, sea and road traffic infrastructure and provide cost effective travel in the region until 2030. The report would make use of a combination of urban planning, multi-modal traffic ecology and engineering, economics.The Master Plan would be developed in association with Pointec of Spain. Pointec is a renowned leader in traffic and transport consulting, having played a vital role in the Master Plan for public urban transportation Oviedo, Spain.
